Art and Nature – My year started with a trip to Longleat forest in Wiltshire, a week in a lodge in the middle of the forest. It was February, so still rather cold, but I ventured out to enjoy and paint the majestic trees. I also captured the undergrowth, and the paths beneath the canopy. The wild ponds and streams, and sunlight trying to break through the foliage. What an adventure!
Then I heard that one of my paintings had been selected by the RBA (Royal Society of British Artists) for their Exhibition, see photo of the proud artist!
After this, I went painting with Hester Berry in Sussex, a super experience. Do check out her works here. https://www.hesterberry.co.uk/
May found me at Great Malvern for a paint out quickly followed by a week in Wales, around Dolgellau.
What a year it was turning out to be, maybe my best yet? June followed with an exhibition at Westgate on Sea, all about seaside holidays, whilst I and some friends went to Rye in Sussex for three days painting together.
Next was a trip to Stoke on Trent, with London Plein Air Painters, superbly organised, we visited old potteries, a coal mine, and ‘Mow Cop’ a listed hilltop ‘folly’ in Cheshire.
In July I was off again, this time to Wexford in Ireland, my third visit.
Run by Tony Robinson and others, ‘Art in the Open’, is nine days painting with up to 200 artists, from all round the world, followed by an exhibition.
I also got to meet, mix and drink with some of my art heroes, how good can it get?
It was a time for experimenting with fresh ideas and methods, and trying to achieve looser more emotionally connected results. Winter is a good time for me to try out new ideas, so watch this space, as they say!
October was Open Studio time. When for three weekends, I welcomed visitors to look round the studio, chat about how and why I create art, and how I try to bring Art and Nature together to excite my followers.
At this time I was also busy framing, mounting, varnishing and selecting all the best new unseen works, ready for my annual solo exhibition in Ramsgate in November.
