2026 An exciting new year

Painting the Living World, One Breath at a Time

My plein air studio

An exciting new year,
A new year is an invitation. Not just to set goals or turn pages, but to step outside and notice what’s quietly, insistently alive all around us.

In 2026, I’m continuing a practice that has shaped both my art and my way of seeing: painting en plein air—directly from nature, under open skies, in changing light, wind, and weather. No filters. No studio shortcuts. Just paint, time, and the living landscape.

When working outdoors, I observe, listen and smell nature at it’s finest. A shifting cloud can undo a color decision in seconds. A bird’s call can change the rhythm of a brushstroke. The world refuses to stay still, and that’s exactly the point. Painting this way keeps me honest, humble, and deeply present.

This year, I’ll be sharing more of that process with you:

  • New fresh paintings made on location—fields, coasts, forests, and quiet in-between places

  • Moments when nature surprises me, challenges me, or completely rewrites the plan

  • Reflections on slowing down, paying attention, and reconnecting with the land through art

If you’re someone who feels restored by fresh air, moved by changing seasons, or curious about how art can deepen your relationship with nature, I’d love for you to follow along in 2026. You don’t need to be a painter or stand out in the rain. Just a person who has a passion for nature.

My hope is that these paintings and stories don’t just show you landscapes, but invite you back into them. Back into noticing. Back into wonder.

2026 starts with an exhibition in Ramsgate at Turner Rowe Gallery in Harbour Street. Do pop in say Hi, and enjoy the exhibition and activities.

Last year was my best yet, with painting trips to the forest at Elveden in Suffolk and the New forest in Hampshire.

Next, I went up to Snowdonia in North Wales, where I was painting with the London Plein air Painters, in atrocious weather. Despite this, I really enjoyed the week and the company. I then went to Wexford in Ireland for art in the open (AITO) again, painting with friends.

Sidmouth in Devon was my next painting spot, with a few days painting with Roger Dellar ROI, RI, RSMA, PS a highly skilled and experienced professional artist. I finished the season with a week painting in Cornwall’s beautiful Roseland peninsular.

Exhibitions included Afloat or Ashore at Exeter Quay, by the RSMA and WGA (The Wapping Group). The Pie factory Margate by SEAS, (South east Artists). At Whitstable’s Horsebridge  gallery by Locus Arts, at York Street Gallery Ramsgate for their final Pre retirement exhibition. At Sandwich for EKAS annual members exhibition.
The season ended with Sandwich Arts Week, and a plein air exhibition at Green and Stone in Chelsea.
