This is what I was painting, in that hard hat. I was at Chatterley Whitfield coal mine in North Staffordshire, with artist friends. We also painted at some of the historic potteries, with their famous ‘bottle’ kilns.
Here is a photo at the Gladstone pottery in Stoke on Trent, with some of their rare bottle kilns. Now open as a museum, it is a super place to visit! I recommend it.
I also organised a short trip to Rye in Sussex for some artist friends and we painted the old hilltop town, and views across the meadows to the harbour.
Last year my theme was ‘The call of the Sea’. This year it is ‘En Plein Air’ Paintings from Nature. My followers will know that I love to spend time in nature, in the woods, a field or a boatyard, painting what I see and feel whilst there. So perhaps last year was my ‘blue period’ and this year is my ‘green period’?
