At last - we are free to go out painting again! How I've missed it, Now I know why they say - you don't truly value freedom, until you lose it!
The freedom to go painting, ‘plein air painting’ is the most fun you can have in the open air, and yet still be legal! Since the beginning of the gradual relaxing of the lockdown, I have been choosing to paint in quiet spots along our coastline here, but have had to avoid some beaches, due to overcrowding.
This was my next adventure, to Cliffs End, near Pegwell. I found myself perched precariously on the cliff edge, not far from the footpath, just as the tide was coming in, which happens very quickly and covers all the low lying land, shown on the left. Just in time, a couple and their children appeared in view, and helped me to depict the scale in this oil painting.
Dealing with changing tides, light conditions and variable weather is all part of the fun for painting on location.
Coming soon: Paint out Norfolk and Open Studio
In July I was invited to take part in ‘Paint out Norfolk’ an exciting week of ‘plein air’ painting with friends, finishing up with awards prizes and a selling exhibition. I have also signed up with East Kent Open Houses to open my studio in October. For more exciting details and updates, CLICK HERE
