Isolation excitement creative ideas

Yes I have been busy as usual, before and after lockdown, painting out and about in Norfolk, at the broads and on the coast, and in Kent at Dover, Dungeness, Aylesford, Stodmarsh, and closer to home at Grove Ferry, Botany Bay, Viking Bay and Quex near Birchington. We are lucky to have so much variety close by, from coastal scenes, woodlands, rolling hillsides, medieval villages, rivers and boats and of course, nature reserves.

I was recently invited to present an article for inclusion in the SAA’s Paint magazine.

I chose to paint Botany Bay, on the east Kent coast, in oils and using photos of the work in progress and text, I was able to describe my approach to the subject and offer some top tips.  It appeared in the September 2020 issue. Click photo for a preview etc.

Botany Bay oil painting

Here is the finished painting, complete with  socially distanced holidaymakers enjoying the beach.

This is a favourite spot to paint and it is only a couple of miles from my home and studio.

Here is a short video for you, looking the other way at Botany Bay, enjoy!
