here are a few more recent watercolour paintings afternoon light in Venice, The sands at Margate harbour, a view over Minster in Thanet, followed by an interesting line of trees nearby, all of these last three, are in east Kent.
Watercolour is probably my first love, before other media like oils, as I spent many more years trying to perfect my skills in this difficult medium!
The most important lesson for me was ‘Patience’. These examples are recent watercolour paintings
Watercolour requires lots of it, and confidence as well. Of course, only experience and practice can provide this.
One of my current favourite watercolour painters is Graham Booth from Northern Ireland.
He is very good at demonstrating and explaining, as he paints. Very helpful for beginners.
He makes three washes, the first very wet and covering the whole paper, the next a little thicker and stronger colours, and not covering more than half the paper, with the last wash for final details only, and leaving much of the second wash.
