Splash into January with Watercolours

Splash into January

Splash into January with Watercolours! It must be a new year!

I like January, when it’s too cold outside, to explore and experiment with fresh ideas and methods. Usually I start by bringing out my watercolours.

The first few days are spent trying to remember what to do, and more importantly, what not to do!  So I literally do ‘Splash into January’. I make a mess and throw away most of the results.

Autumn trees, watercolour

My regular followers know that my favourite subjects are trees. And autumn trees are even better, with their bold colours! See also the sunrise at Tower Bridge above! I love all nature’s subjects, like the Chalk cliffs at heading and storm over the meadows.

So my ‘Splash into January with watercolours’ got off to a great start, as you can see here. I managed to recall how to do it, and can churn them out seemingly, in a jiffy!

Rocky coastline near Zennor, cornwall

I’ll leave you with this view of the rocky coastline near Zennor in Cornwall. A favourite painting spot for me.

Next time, I’ll be back in the forest with endless trees, in oils and watercolour, and hopefully another sketchbook full of ideas to inspire me.
