My Latest paintings - Lockdown inspiration Ideas
My Latest paintings After I had painted a selection of views from upstairs windows and in the garden, see my earlier post, my thoughts turned once again to my time painting in Venice, and what a special time that was. So I decided to work up some larger oil paintings of places seen and sketched then.
Venice has a special light that artists have always sought out, it is caused by Venice’s situation in a lagoon, surrounded on all sides by the sea. Here is a late afternoon view in oils looking across the Grand Canal with the sun setting beyond. It is size 16″ x 12″ and is now in my gallery of latest works.
Here is another studio oil painting of a typical canal view from one of the many bridges.
This time I’ve allowed the canal to lead you in to the middle distance where the sunlight is catching the buildings to the right, with shadows cast by the buildings opposite, and reflections on the still water.
This is also size 12″ x 16″ and full details are also in my gallery.
I’ll leave you this time with another oil painting, this time of Botany Bay which is not far from my studio. It is a popular beauty spot on the east Kent coast with chalk stacks and cliffs in abundance. I visited again recently and worked this up in my studio from earlier paintings and sketches, made on site.
Here is a little treat for you. See how I create a painting, speeded up – so you don’t have to watch paint dry!
