Lockdown creativity, what’s it all about?

Lockdown Creativity, what’s that!

Lockdown Creativity, oil paintings! What have you been doing under this ‘lockdown’? I’ve used the Lockdown to  create unique original paintings, for sale, yet have found it to be really challenging on some days, with a vivid imagination working overtime, trying to come to terms with all the troubles we are seeing in the daily news.

I am so pleased to have my Art to take me away from these hardships. It is my escape mechanism, because when I'm creating, I'm 'miles away', almost on another planet. So here is my first 'Lockdown' painting of Lola, our Chihuahua, Border terrier cross. She spends the mornings barking at passers by, and the afternoons dozing, allowing me to paint or sketch.

Another lockdown option has been to paint in our small garden. Choosing suitable subjects has been challenging at times, I’m used to the ‘big outdoors’ and can hardly wait for those bright summer colours to appear.

Here is my garden studio, a pochade box on tripod, which holds 2 wet boards and everything I need to create unique original oil paintings.  This kit goes everywhere with me!

All these paintings are now in my online gallery here, with full details etc.

My Art is my lockdown creativity, it has been keeping me ‘sane’ in these troubled times. It is so important to have a useful skill, which can do this, and take you away from reality for a while!

When it is grey outside,  I look for an interior view to paint. Here is a view of the hall, where I hang the works of artists I admire and who inspire me to carry on creating.

All the paintings in this article are oils, painted on canvas covered board using  professional quality paints and varnishes.

I’ll leave you with a video showing how I painted the garden scene above,  from start to finish. Do please like or subscribe, and ring the bell, to see future videos like this! Enjoy!

Lockdown – means I can’t go and visit and paint on the jetty in Broadstairs!

But if you click on the photo it will take you to the local tourist office website with more images.
