An Artist in Summer – where did I go?

Painting at Barton Turf An artist in Summer

For a ‘Plein Air’ artist like me, being out doors in summer is just the best!

2022 was probably the hottest driest summer I can remember. So as an artist in summer, you can bet I was out there as often as possible. I was painting and sketching until long after the light had faded. In July I was invited to paint in Norfolk once again, at ‘Paint Out Norfolk’. Painting alongside about 80 other artists, including many friends, it was a super experience.

Here are some photos. Me painting at Elm Hill, Norwich. An oil painting of a boat graveyard at Kings Lynn docks. The old grain warehouse at Wells next the Sea and some straw bales near Ludham. I was indeed an artist in summer.

I was also captured ‘in the act’ by a photographer at Barton Turf, in the Broads, see above. As you know I can’t keep away from boatyards, so here is the trusty crane at Ludham Bridge boat yard. And below, the interior at Stockwell’s boat yard at Horning, with some rather fine boats receiving their expert attention.

In September, I treated myself to a week, painting with friends on a mountain top in Italy. I’ll write about that experience next time and show you some of my paintings.
